The Wayne State University fencing team hosted its annual Danosi Open at the Matthaei Building, drawing more than 100 competitors to Detroit for an action-packed day of high-level individual matchups.
The event welcomed athletes from across the region to compete in a non-team, open-format tournament that tested their precision, endurance, and tactical thinking. The energy in the gym was electric as bouts unfolded across multiple strips, each point earned through lightning-fast reflexes and calculated moves.
Throughout the day, fencers demonstrated technical mastery and mental focus in a series of intense one-on-one duels. From early pool rounds to the final elimination bouts, the competition remained fierce and unpredictable. Every touch scored carried weight, as athletes advanced round by round with their eyes on the podium.
